On the day I got results of my 10th grade students' reading diagnostics, the data showed to me...
One student reading at 1st grade level.
One student reading at 2nd grade level.
Two reading at 3rd grade level.
Two reading at 4th grade level.
One at 5th...
Four at 6th...
Two at 7th...
Two at 8th...
Four at 9th...
Two at 10th...
Two at 11th...
One at 12th...
...and two at Collegiate.
And I have to teach the 10th grade material to ALL of them.
Is this what you think of when you think of a high school classroom? Are these the kinds of ability levels you expect to see? Keep in mind, this is a Regents-level class...not an inclusion class...so I don't have a co-teacher to help support the students who need more help to work up to grade level.
This is modern public education. Fun times, hm?
